Daffy Saturday

While most of the USA is suffering from extreme cold, snow, and ice, we are enjoying an early spring here in the Pacific Northwest. The fields of daffodils are already in bloom which means the tulips won't be far behind. In fact, organizers have had to move the start of our annual Tulip Festival up from the first of April into the last weeks of March.

I bought a bunch of field grown daffs to have in the studio this week. They are so cheerful! They inspired me to dig into the yellows in my stash and make a few blocks in the RSC color of the month.

It's a bit challenging to get good pictures of this light, bright color.

The blocks I've been making have been stacking up (on Ruby Blue actually):

I've bemoaned the fact that my Parts Drawer is full to overflowing...

So I finally looked around and found another drawer nearby that didn't take much effort to empty out. It has become the Parts Dept. Annex, holding my 6" Shoofly and Hole in the Barn Door blocks.

There's even a bit of room for growth (but not much!). Now I can at least get the larger drawer open and closed more easily. My 12" blocks are still stacked on top of Ruby Blue but the tower is shorter now, less likely to topple over in a stiff breeze.

I'm linking up with SoScrappy for this first Saturday of yellow. :- )

  2. A nice start to yellow month Sue. I'm impressed with your "parts department" organisation. I think I'm going to have to find a drawer or two to start my own, it's such a good way to keep them all together where I'll be able to find them!

  3. That is a beautifully inspiring field of daffodils. I love daffs too.
I like your idea of baggies in the draw. A place for everything, and everything in its place.

  4. Pretty yellow blocks! I am looking in vain for daffodils--they lay still fast asleep under our slow-to-melt packs of iced in snow! But you are right--the yellows perk you up! thanks for the
    pix of cheeriness--hugs, Julierose

  6. Such a pretty sight - those fields of daffodils. I've ran out of room in a 3 drawer pull out and have overtaken a dresser for all my parts department. I'm thinking I should sew some together to make room!

  11. You are so right about that colour -- lovely and bright. It must be amazing to see the daffodils emerge after a cold and white winter. It never gets that cold here in Melbourne Australia, but I still love to see the daffodils in spring.

  15. You have got a LOT of blocks in progress. Thanks for the daffodil photo. It is so beautiful. Right now my bulbs are sleeping beneath 5 feet of snow.

  16. You are my kind of quilter! Not enough room in the drawer? Add another drawer! LOL Love your yellow blocks, and that photo of the field of daffodils is amazing with the sunset.

  17. Love your daffodil shot. It makes me a bit nostalgic for Northern Hemisphere spring. We're too far north here for spring bulbs, they don't get enough chill in the tropics.
Your block storage is very impressive! I never get to the point of having blocks waiting for a quilt to come along, I only ever make exactly what I need for the project in hand. It makes producing 'emergency' quilts a bit more difficult!
